Here I am in the picture... well.... not exactly; it's my shadow, my dark shape that appeared on a pavement when I was standing in the sunshine. So how was my shadow formed? I was standing in the sunshine and blocking light which means that no light was able to pass through me. Whenever light is not able to go through an object/person, it creates a dark area around it. This patch where the light can not reach is called a shadow. Why my shadow is so long? The size of the shadow depends on the angle at which the light is falling on me. A shadow keeps changing throughout the day because the position of sun (a source of light) changes meaning that the angle at which the rays fall on the ground change. My shadow is the longest in the early morning and the late afternoon. At noon, when the sun is overhead there is little or no shadow at all.. |
