Our friend Connie turned 100th last week and we were invited to celebrate this special Birthday with her, her family and friends. It was an honour to be there. I met Connie through Anna and I have to say, she is an exceptional Lady, someone who sets an example for all of us. She is always positive, no matter what life throws at her, she is grateful for who she is and what she has and when the problems come, she strongly believes that everything will work out in the end. She is kind, friendly, open‑minded (at her age she works on the computer, uses Facebook and stays up to date with technology), very loving and giving. She likes seeing people happy and successful and she enjoys and endorses her friends’ achievements. She has been very active her whole life, engaged in social issues, local communities and charity work. She has been working for Save the Children for 54 years! She was born in America, but she moved to Leamington in 1954 when she met her husband Eric, who was British.
When she was asked what is the secret of her longevity she said that she never gets too worried nor over‑excited. I personally think it is her positive attitude, good heart, loving thoughts and engagement in helping others, that keep her heart strong and brain sharp.
For her 100th birthday Connie set up a goal to raise £5,000 for Save the Children charity. When she was asked what she wanted for her birthday, she said she wanted to celebrate with family and friends. And when she was asked about gifts, she said: ‘I don’t really need anything – just the smile on the face of a child and donations to Save the Children will do that.’ Connie’s daughter Judy set up a fund-raising page for her and so far Connie achieved over 43% of her goal and raised over £2,000 for Save the Children. She is definitely a Lady to be admired. She shows us that good heart, good thoughts, kindness, positive attitude and loving, open nature are making this world more beautiful and attract good people and good energy. Try to always clear your mind from negative thoughts dear Atria, be generous to people, friendly, loving and you will see that life will treat you the same way.
