Following my yesterday's post I just wanted to tell you what can be done to prevent domestic cats from catching birds. Well... it's very simple - a small bell on cat's collar. As you can see in the picture Whiskey is wearing one and although I think he wouldn't be able to catch anything anyway because he is too big and too lazy to run fast, Anna still puts a little bell on his collar. This way birds can hear him approaching and they can fly away to their safety. As far as we know, Whiskey himself never caught a bird. The most he has done was trying to get a half-alive creature abandoned by Tommy's cats bored with their prey. Tommy's cats don't wear collars at all, they are very slender and fit and they often catch birds and garden mice. They are well fed and never hungry, but that's just in their nature. I guess you can't blame them for that. Anna is trying to fight with the nature and she doesn't like to even think that Whiskey could hurt a little bird or mouse, so she not only ensures his food supplies but also makes hunting more difficult for him by putting a bell on his collar. I don't think Whiskey would have appreciated it knowing the purpose it serves ;-) |
